경희가 교회에 가있는 동안, 요셉과 창호 둘만 남게 됨. 요셉은 창호에게 자기가 죽으면 경희랑 결혼해도 된다고 함. 좀만 더 기다려달라고. 

창호는 경희를 마중 나가서 진지하게 얘기를 하게 되는데, 경희는 당황스러움. 

한번도 서로를 배신하거나 한눈 팔지 않았던 사이인데, 아직 남편이 죽지도 않았는데, 다른 남자와 결혼을??

남편을 죽길 기다려야하는 것인가?

아직 자신의 마음도 잘 모르겠고, 혼란스러운 경희는 거절을 함. 창호는 다음날 조용히 평양을 가기 위해 기차역으로 가버림.
