fly over states: states that are so boring that there is no point going to them and you just look at them from the plane window as you go over them
tornado alley: Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Nebraska, South Dakota, Indiana, Missouri, Iowa, Illinois, and Ohio.
shore: the land along the edge of a sea, lake, or other large body of water.
There were definitely alligators in that lake, but they might not have been on shore.
hardy: robust; capable of enduring difficult conditions.
Alligators are hardy creatures, which is why you can find them EVERYWHERE in Florida.
snout: the projecting nose and mouth of an animal, especially a mammal.
Alligators have rounder snouts than crocodiles.
agile: able to move quickly and easily.
Alligators are not very agile on land.
